Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Distribution Companies have signed cooperation agreements with the Industrial Development Bureau of the Department of Economic Development with the aim of promoting efficient energy consumption across all industrial facilities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This initiative is designed to enhance the competitiveness of this growing sector of the economy and to attract further investments in the industrial sector, continuing the diversification of the economy of the Emirate.

The two agreements were signed during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week at the World Future Energy Summit by H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, General Manager of ADDC, H.E. Abdullah El Sheryani, Acting Managing Director of Al Ain Distribution Company and H.E. Rashid Abdul Kareem Al Baloushi, Undersecretary of the Department of Economic Development. In the presence of H.E. Eng. Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei, the UAE Minister of Energy & Industry, H.E. Eng. Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of the Department of Energy, H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Hajri, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development  and Eng. Ahmed Hilal Al-Baloushi, Acting Executive Director of Industrial Development Bureau.

This initiative is part of the "Tarsheed" programme initiated by the government to improve electricity and water consumption efficiency across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The first phase will focus on six key industrial sectors of paper, building materials, cement, steel, plastics and food industries which together account for more than 75% of industrial electricity consumption excluding the oil & gas sector.

Abu Dhabi Distribution and Al Ain Distribution Company will provide consultation to industrial facilities through reviewing consumption and production data and conducting field visits to study the operations in detail. Reports will be prepared for individual factories highlighting key areas for improvement, along with general reports for wider distribution that detail best practices for each manufacturing sector.

The Industrial Development Bureau will facilitate workshops, development and awareness programs in cooperation with the two distribution companies, and will disseminate the best practices guide to support its industrial stakeholders.

Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, General Manager of Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, said: "This cooperation with Industrial Development Bureau is a joint effort to increase the efficiency of energy consumption of all industrial facilities in the Emirate, contributing to the development of the industrial sector and enabling its effective role in the economic prosperity of Abu Dhabi.

"This collaboration reflects our efforts to promote strategic partnerships aimed at achieving a sustainable and clean environment by working with our partners in line with the vision and guidance of our leadership," said Abdullah El Sheryani, Acting Managing Director of Al Ain Distribution Company.

"The signing of these two agreements between Abu Dhabi Distribution, Al Ain Distribution company and the Industrial Development Bureau will contribute to increasing the efficiency of energy consumption in industrial facilities in the emirate, which is in line with the objectives of the "Tarsheed" Demand Side Management programme and the vision of Abu Dhabi 2030 in the sustainability of energy", said H.E. Rashid Abdul Kareem Al Baloushi, Undersecretary of the Department of Economic Development.
